Are you attracting the wrong clients?

The enquiries come in, which should feel good. But too many of them are the wrong ones. Bargain hunters. Tyre kickers. Projects a size too small, or a fit too poor. Meanwhile the clients you actually want don't seem to find you at all.

Here's the thing most businesses miss: that's not bad luck. Your brand is doing the inviting, and it's inviting the wrong people.

Brands are filters, whether you designed them or not

Every brand sends signals about who it's for. Price signals, quality signals, personality signals. Buyers read them in seconds and self-select: "this looks like it's for me" or "this looks above, below or beside what I need".

If your enquiries skew cheap, your brand is signalling cheap, or at least signalling nothing that would put a bargain hunter off. If your ideal clients aren't calling, your brand isn't showing them anything that says "you're who we're built for". The filter is running either way. The only question is whether you set it.

The cost of the wrong yes

Wrong-fit work isn't neutral. It fills your capacity at your worst margins, produces portfolio pieces that attract more of the same, and burns the hours you'd otherwise spend reaching the clients you want. Saying yes to the wrong work is how businesses get stuck being someone they never meant to be.

Aim the brand on purpose

The fix is deciding, precisely, who you're for, then rebuilding the signals around them. The language they use, the quality markers they look for, the problems they recognise as their own. A well-aimed brand does something that feels almost rude at first: it puts some people off. That's the feature. Every wrong-fit enquiry it filters out is time returned to winning the right ones.
